Host galaxies of QSOs

I also work in optical and infrared imaging of QSOs/quasars, in collaboration with the group at Edinburgh: James Dunlop, Marek Kukula, Will Percival, Ross McLure and David Floyd and separately with the 2QZ survey team. We aim to measure the types of galaxies in which they live, and to measure how those galaxies have changed with cosmic epoch. By making these measurements we can hope to understand the link between cosmological evolution of galaxies, the formation of dark matter halos, and the formation and activation of black holes within galaxies. The main telescopes used for this work are the Hubble Space Telescope, the Gemini telescopes and the United Kingdom Infrared Telescope on Hawaii.
