Tips on using Observe in Oxford

  • Make sure you are running in an xterm, not a console or terminal emulator.
  • Set the environment variable TERM correctly by typing: setenv TERM vt320

  • then source the console-dependent key-mapping file, e.g.: source /home/kmb/.keymap_ceardach for one of the new Linux boxes like ceardach, or source /home/kmb/.keymap_carna, or if you are working at an alpha like zubenelgenubi, try source /home/kmb/.keymap_zub. If certain of the key strokes do not work on the numeric keypad, try figuring out what the re-mapping for your keyboard should be using xev.

  • then run observe in the `usual' way: /star/local/packages/observe/observe
