Notes for tutors regarding the new B3 lecture course in

ASTROPHYSICS

Michaelmas Term, 2003

This lists the help which will be available to tutors:

• Tutorial for new astrophysics tutors will be held on Friday of first week (aka 17 October 2003). Katherine Blundell will discuss the Cosmology course between 3pm and 4pm and Philipp Podsiadlowski will discuss the Stellar course between 4.30pm and 5.30pm. The venue is the Martin Wood Lecture Theatre.
• Advance copies of lecture notes: copies of the notes for the lectures (Weeks 1-4) on Stellar Structure and Evolution have been distributed to college senior physics tutors (further copies should be available from Jenni Wagstaff in Reprographics); copies of the notes for the lectures (Weeks 5-8) on Cosmology will be available a couple of weeks later. This web-page will reflect the status of availability of these.
• Worked solutions to the problem sheets for the Stellar course will be available in a few days time and for the later, Cosmology, course on a similar timescale to those lecture notes. This web-page will reflect the status of availability of these.

The number of tutorials expected this term:

• The Physics sub-faculty usually assumes a rate of one tutorial per four lectures. The expectation is that Stellar course and the Cosmology course should each have two tutorials. [Note, this is despite the fact that each course consists not of eight but of nine lectures - which allows eight lectures worth of material to be delivered at a slightly more measured pace.] Our suggested scheduling follows below:
