The MINT Base
The MINT base will likely be the last base designed and built by the great Ted Griffiths of the Physics Department shop. It features a large robotics geared bearing and actuator arm for ALT-AZ pointing. Both axis have 17-bit encoders. During operation, it rests on three points and for transportation, four wheels are attached for maneuvering around the tight hallways of Jadwin Hall. The primary design constraint for is that it fit in service elevator, which is also smaller than standard shipping containers. This also makes the instrument laboratory scale, making integration considerably easier. The base and the rest of MINT will be wheeled out the to roof of Jadwin fully assembled for first light. |
